Terence: [00:00:00] Today, I have a very special interviewee with us, a very special guest. His name is Roy Phay. And why I say he’s special is because of his life story. I mean, if you want to hear a comeback story, this is like Rocky level comeback stories, right, in his personal life. And, , most of all, he’s really a top guy.

Terence: Really, really cool person to hang out with and to work with. So Roy Phay, welcome to the stage.

Roy's Humble Beginnings

Roy Phay: Thank you. Thank you, Terence. , thanks for the great introduction. I love Rocky. But I’m not sure if I lived up to Rocky. Thanks for the great introduction.

Terence: Okay. Right. I guess people will be curious as to your life story. Now that we talked it up, let’s hear a life story. What happened and your business journey throughout your life?

Roy Phay: Yeah, sure. So I’m a Singaporean, so I was born and bred in Singapore, you know, just a very average Singaporean family. And when I was young, you know. I still remember my very first house was just a 500 square feet apartment.

And in there slept my great [00:01:00] grandfather, my grandma, my grandpa, and like eight adults and one kid. And, , yeah, I’m, I still remember I was sleeping on the ’tilam’, right? Which is, , means mattresses in Malay, Melayu. Sleeping in the living room and facing the main door. Right.

Terence: Did you say there were eight people, eight adults in one house?

Roy Phay: Yeah. And one kid and the kid is, it’s me. Wow. Yeah. Right. 500 square feet.

Terence: Sorry to interrupt this. But it’s kind of unbelievable.

Roy Phay: Yeah. Yeah. And that’s how I grew up and my parents were like really busy working like 12 to 14 hours a day because they are in the service industry. And so I was young, I was brought up by my grandma.

And till today I’m still very thankful she’s still around. So I still get to visit her every week. , yeah. And. Then my first job was in, when I was 14 years old, I was working at McDonald’s. And after working one year, having fun working at McDonald’s, because we are all teenagers at 14, the store manager came and say, Roy, I want to promote you to a crew leader.

All right. I was super excited. Like, wow. You know, my first promotion in my life at [00:02:00] 15. So he say we’re going to increase your pay from $3 per hour to $3.20 per hour.

Terence: Awesome.

Roy Phay: And that was the first time I understood what is, , working for extra $1.60, pay increase for eight hours, on a Saturday and Sunday, where most kids are actually out there playing computer games.

Early Career and Military Service

Roy Phay: Then after that, I need to go to the army. You know, and that was about 2001. And that was actually one of my low point in my life, because I started to feel I lost control, , because it’s something I didn’t really like back then. And I still have to stuck with it with two and a half years. , and in the end, long story short, , in, instead of just complaining and having no choice, so what I did was I just, , sign on, which means I signed a full year, full five years contract with the Singapore Armed Forces. So I became a full-time soldier. Instead of the two and a half years obligation like most, , Singaporean boys. So…

Terence: Right, so for context, those of you who are not Singaporean, , Singapore has a [00:03:00] compulsory army serving period of two and a half years.

But you sign up for an extra five years because, hey, you know, why not?

Roy Phay: Yeah, I doubled it. So in all in all, it’s five years inclusive of the two and a half years. Okay. That was the old, that was the old scheme, right? So the new scheme now is two years compulsory. And, and anyway, so five years In and actually just 18 months into the contract, I just decided that I want to be entrepreneur.

And that was when I was exposed to all the seminals, all the network marketing, all the ‘Rich Dad, Poor Dad’, Tony Robbins, Robert Kiyosaki, and all the motivational. And that got me very excited about financial freedom, about, you know, become a millionaire and starting my own business. So right after five years contract ended, I actually started my own internet business, working from home for eight years with no strategy, no plan, no savings.

Entrepreneurial Journey and Struggles

Roy Phay: I just knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur. And as you might guess, I struggled really, really [00:04:00] badly for about 10 years. And money is always a concern, you know, don’t know how to sell. I don’t know how to get more sales. But along the way, I did pretty well in one ebook, which I learned how to write my own ebook and I launch it. It’s called Runescape Top Secrets.

So what I did was I realized this game, there’s a lot of people playing, but I do don’t know who are the players. And I went to elance. com, I still remember I paid $1,100 to a kid, 16 years old who played the games and can write. And then he gave me the ebook. I cleaned it up and then I put up the website in four months.

And then, I got my first sale in four hours, $27.99. And that changed my life. Yeah.

Terence: So Runescape is a gaming book, right? It’s a game, right? So it’s basically is a guide book to playing the game. Okay.

Roy Phay: Yeah. And, and I didn’t knew, I didn’t know back then there was actually kids ranging from 6 to 16 who don’t have credit cards that play the game.

And I’m very thankful because my internet marketing mentor was saying, [00:05:00] just, just launch it. The parents would buy for them just like McDonald’s. I was like, yeah, cool. And I did. And that one product was making me like thousands of passive income every month for five years. And because of that little success, I start speaking for success resources a little bit, you know, for about a year.

And then, I get on a bit more corporate client because that’s where I’ve result to prove. And yeah, and that was, that’s where I started to build my business. Right. And, in about 2011, I started another training company. And I was running the marketing. So in three years, we did about 1. 2 million in sales, bringing in, external speaker, we are not a speaker ourselves.

So we’re marketing him in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam. And then the business did well. I exited because it’s four partners and I just exit that business and I just move on in my life. So what happened was at one particular year, it’s as if, bad luck hit me. And maybe some of you might know that, , just so overnight I lost everything.

Major Setbacks and Depression

Roy Phay: Like, my business was [00:06:00] gone. My business partner took my business away. I was suddenly into a six figure debt because I need to pay legal fee and a lot of issues and I was in a legal lawsuit multiple actually in for three years. Yeah. And then, , I lost my house to the condo developer because it’s a private developer.

It was a hundred over a thousand dollars and I’ve no income for six months. , I went to a depression for about three month plus until the counselor asked me a specific question. And then I just knew that I actually potentially had mild depression and I stepped myself out of it and start seeking help.

And that’s where I guess the universe knew I needed someone and presented me a coach back then. And with that coach, it got me better. And that’s how I started to, you know, crawl myself out of the pit and it was really bad to the point that, I really ever thought of ending it all.

And the only reason [00:07:00] was because of my loving grandma, as you know, and, you know, my kids and things like that. So, so I didn’t, and thankfully I didn’t. And so what I did was, I was driven by this motivation that I wanted to buy my own house. So can you imagine like an adult in the thirties, late 30s and then homeless, staying with parents.

It’s like, in the Asian culture, it’s like, so no face, right? It’s losing face or shameless, that kind of stuff. So it was really bad in terms of the emotions, the feeling, and you know, the egos part of it. So what I did was I turn it into a drive for me to want to get my own house. And that’s where I researched a bit into what kind of house I wanted.

Discovering Feng Shui and Qi Men

Roy Phay: And I realized the rich actually uses Feng Shui, right? So I was like, hmm, interesting. So I wanted to get a Feng Shui house. And then I just knew I didn’t want to depend on any Feng Shui master because I just came to know, like, in some way, like this industry [00:08:00] is pretty diverse, like there’s no one way to know if Feng Shui works, right?

And if you talk to 10 different masters, they’ll give you 20 different answers. So I said, I want to learn it myself.

Terence: It’s really, you can’t really scientifically measure it, right? So you have to trust the master.

Roy Phay: Yeah. And everyone will say theirs is the best, right? Right. That’s the problem. Anyway. So I went to learn myself.

I have some very basic, basic training and along the way, as I studied Feng Shui, that’s where I start stumble upon Qi Men. And that was when I started to deep dive into Qi Men. And then the first thing I learned about Qi Men is called Qi Men manifestation. And I follow the steps that I learned from the video recording.

And in just two weeks, I felt a difference in me. I suddenly felt that I have more energy and I start to be more productive in my work. Previously, it probably take me a week to do some tasks and I can complete it in two days. So it seems like, ooh, this thing is cool. It works. And then I just [00:09:00] self experiment a lot, you know, and try here and there because I have no friends, right?

No friends in this school and I, everything is online. I don’t know anyone who does that. So I just experimented a lot myself and that year I still remember, I start to get some results. I start closing more sales. I start making more money. And, and I even travel for free, like three times that year.

So one of my friend wanted to bring a group of friends to Sri Lanka and because Sri Lanka is like my second home, I go there every year for charity previously. So she’s like, Hey, why not you organize everything and you just be our tour guide and she cover all my air ticket, my food, my accommodation.

I get to visit the country for free, for 10 days. And then the second one was my friend going to a corporate meeting in Thailand, bought me air ticket because they knew that, you know, I needed the travel and that trip, I’ll probably spend about $200 for transport and food. Right? And the third one was I actually joined a friend on a, like a side gig sales, [00:10:00] you know, kind of organization. And they have like a sales challenge. If you hit the sales target or you, they’ll send you to for a five day, four night, all expenses covered trip to Prague and Vienna.

Terence: Wow.

Roy Phay: And in my mind was like, that’s like really far targets like, and I’m new to the business is like, ah, it’s impossible for me to do it.

And my friend was like, Hey, you know, this Qi Men, right? You’re learning this Qi Men thing. Use your Qi Men. I was like, Oh yeah, why not? Right. So that’s why I did. So I went to study deeper and I did what I know. And guess what? I really hit the target and I really go to a five day, four night, all expenses paid, Emirates air tickets, four star hotels, good food for five days, four nights.

And that’s, that was like the best time of my year and that’s it.

Terence: And you just manifested all this and it just came for free, essentially. Yeah.

Roy Phay: Yeah. And it’s all about, it’s all about me able to start increasing my vibration energy like from negative, maybe a slightly more positive and naturally things [00:11:00] will just flow.

Yeah, and then next year, then the following year, when Covid hits is where I manifested my Feng Shui house. That’s what I actually explained a bit more in my you know, Qi Men Manifestation masterclass, but I did show students like my command, which I took a photo of the notebook of the command that I wrote down and the date, you know, in 17 days, I do the command every day, just like 10 minutes in 17 days, I found my Feng Shui house.

So I put a thousand dollars deposit to get the house. And ever since I moved into this house, everything just changed. So, in the past previously, if you know, without this house, I’m staying now, I probably can tell you, oh, Feng Shui is a nice concept. It’s a nice theory because you know, it’s, it’s all theory and study and things like that.

But now coming, staying in this house almost for five years, I can tell Feng Shui works and my life just turned after that. And, yeah, and things just got better and better and better for me each and every year. I’m [00:12:00] super thankful. Even one of my very close mentor who knew me when I was really six figure in debt.

And this mentor was like telling me three times in the, in that year, first year I moved in and say, you really look and you are really very different ever since you stay in this house. I was like, really? Yeah. And, and she could tell because from a third party, she saw how I struggled back then till now. I am actually doing pretty thankfully okay. You know, so, so yeah, so that was my story.

Terence: Fantastic. I’m curious, Roy, can you give us some ideas of like, what has happened since you move into this house and you know, you learn Qi Men manifestation and all this stuff and Feng Shui, what has happened in the last four years since you moved into this house?

Life Transformation and Success

Terence: Give us some highlights.

Roy Phay: Yeah, so one thing about people who use Feng Shui, I just want to share like, how do you know Feng Shui works? You will know because once you either make a significant change in your existing house [00:13:00] through some renovation or stuff, or you move into a new house, you will see. See changes we’ve been weeks.

If it’s a very good Feng Shui master, within two weeks, I, my life changed in just three months as I stay into this house. So what changes was firstly, somehow somewhere, someone introduced me to my current business partner, which took my accident coaching business, which I call it accident coaching business, because previously I was just, you know, wanting to just share what I know about Qi Men and Feng Shui.

And then he took that and he found me. And once we start partnering, it grew from a, maybe it’s just a tens of thousands of business to a six figure business. Now that’s one. Secondly, I found love, okay. Again, in three months I met this girl, which ultimately now became my wife. Yeah. And then I start to have new friends.

I’m happier. I sleep a lot better. So much so at times I just couldn’t wake up because I Feng [00:14:00] Shui my bedroom and the purpose of bedroom is so that you get good rest. I get a lot more energy over the years. I’m a lot more productive now. Than five years ago, I, you know, I put two photos together from 2013 and 2023, which I usually show in my Qi Men manufacturing masterclass are the common commands from the chat was like, I look more radiant, I look more confident, I look happier, I look younger.

So I still remember back then in 2013, people would say that I looked like 45 when I was like, still like early thirties. Now people say that I look like, 35 when I’m actually in my forties. All right. So, so it’s possible to even change your luck, change your face or change your energy when you start to focus on it, to increase or manage your energy.

Yeah.

Terence: So it basically transform your health. It transform your relationship. It transformed your business. You have more energy. You, you, you have peace of mind. It’s like, it’s like the [00:15:00] complete package.

Roy Phay: Yeah. And then when you. When you became better yourself, , then you always strongly believe that you’ll start influencing the people around you.

So usually the loved ones will be the first one to get impacted. So like this year is the very first time that, myself, my parents, and my brother, six of us, right? We went for a trip in Japan and I think it’s one of the best trip ever. We were there for like, 10 days, fun. Yeah. And yeah, so, so that’s how life is.

Terence: And you saw the Dalai Lama this year as well, right? You met the Dalai Lama this year.

Roy Phay: Yeah. Yeah. That was an interesting thing as well. As I, so you see the thing after I stayed in this house, I continue to test Feng Shui and because I was staying alone initially, right, before I got married, I could do all crazy testing on the Feng Shui.

So almost every year, I will do some renovation of my house. I think my neighbor was like, what’s this guy [00:16:00] doing again? Like every 12 months you get contractors outside the house, you know, try. Yeah, so that’s how crazy I am when it comes to Feng Shui. So anyway, so last year I did my… I think this will be the final one because I finally found the right master and I changed my house Feng Shui and that new energy that came in enabled me to meet or to attract even more amazing people like really top people in, and especially in the spiritual, you know, aspect.

So in my dream for 10 years is always to meet His Holiness, the Dalai Lama. And somehow through some connection, a friend just texted me one day, say on this date, I’m going to have a private audience with him and I’m only bringing a few good friends. Do you, can you come and check?

Terence: That’s so out of the blue.

Roy Phay: Yeah. Out of the blue. Like this friend that I knew for 10 years. Right, right. Then I said sure, and, and I saw that my time was just right, perfectly. I have nothing before, nothing after, and, and I remember…

Terence: Wow.

Roy Phay: I said, can I fly back on the, the audience on the Friday morning? So I got, I say, [00:17:00] can I fly back on Saturday?

Because I need to fly to Japan for the family trip on Monday. And my friends say, sure, you can, you can fly out right away. I say, great. I’m going to book air ticket, get my visa. I’m coming and that’s it. And that’s a life changing trip, even though it’s only like two nights at India, Delhi, Damsala. It was beautiful.

It’s life changing. It’s life changing. And, yeah.

Terence: Miracle compounding upon miracle for you.

Roy Phay: Yeah. And, and when I shared that in the Qi Men manifesting masterclass, sometimes I kind of, I tend to hold back a little bit because if I really share every little details, I think as human being, we are sometimes more naturally skeptical than people will be like, is this true?

And then, and for me, it’s the same, I, at times I’ll just pinch myself and say, am I dreaming? And I’m just, just every day, I just wake up with, you know, lots of gratitude. And so thankful that, , life has become better for me. And that’s, that’s my mission now to really, really share this, to as many [00:18:00] people as possible who have the affinity to willing to work together or to, you know, to learn this together and grow together.

And that’s what I’m doing now. Yeah.

Understanding Qi Men and Feng Shui

Terence: Nice. So Roy, I’m curious, what is the difference between Qi Men manifestation and Feng Shui? I know they’re related, but how does it work together and what’s the difference?

Roy Phay: Everything in Chinese metaphysics is related, , and they correlate with one another just like BaZi, Zi Wei Dou Shu, face reading, palm reading, traditional Chinese medicine, the TCM, , Qi Men, Feng Shui, all these are related and correlated.

So what is Qi Men? So Qi Men in the ancient time has been used predominantly as a war strategy. So it’s very close to Sun Tzu Art of War, Sun Tzu Bing Fa. So I think Sun Tzu Bing Fa, more people actually know about it because the Westerners took the Chinese classic and translated it and become a business strategy too.

So, [00:19:00] the difference between Sun Tzu Art of War and Xi Men is Sun Tzu is actually talking about a concept, the theory and how do you fight and how do you use it in business? I love Xi Men is because it’s very practical. Qi Men basically tells you how to attack, where to attack, when to attack, right?

Terence: Mm hmm.

Roy Phay: So that you get very specific results. And that’s the thing about Qi Men. So Feng Shui is actually tapping into the environmental energy, , to, to pull in or rather to, to draw in the energy to the premise that you are in. It could be a residential to stay, or can be an office to work in and you charge that premise with positive energy.

So most people thought that it’s superstitious. I need to buy some glass object or paint the wall red color to have Feng Shui. But if you understood classical, authentic Feng Shui, it’s actually using wind and water because Feng Shui in Chinese means the wind and the water and it’s actually chi [00:20:00] manipulation because if you understand chi and you can move the chi and charge the premise with positive energy what it means is the person staying there is more positive, , more motivated, have more creative ideas, , naturally increase the vibrational energy and then so, so to say, they say they are lucky, right?

So that’s what happened. So even my current wife who I married, we got married and she stayed here, she felt it, she felt the difference in the growth over the last few months, right? And, , just in here as compared to previously, her previous house. So that’s Feng Shui. Qi Men is a lot more individual or using manifestation to align to your own personal direction, to increase your own personal energy. So I always like to share that, , Qi Men is free and Qi Men is easy. It’s like 10 minutes a day. And when I was six figures in debt, I was depressed. I was down and broke and no friends. Qi Men is easy. It’s you just, as long as you’re willing to do 10 minutes every day, [00:21:00] just sit down, just close your eyes.

Just calm yourself with deep breath and say the command. When you do it long enough, your life will shift. And that’s Qi Men. Feng Shui, I love Feng Shui because Feng Shui is effortless, which means today if I can have a house and I can get my parents, my grandma, you know, my siblings, and everyone stay in the house, I can, you know, kind of like, , tweak the whole Feng Shui to individual needs.

So that each of them get their individual benefits without them doing anything. And that’s the cool part about Feng Shui. So I can, I can do Feng Shui for my parents who stay with me without them knowing that I’m doing Feng Shui for them, like for their good health or good mental wellness and things like that.

However, Feng Shui is expensive, especially in Singapore, because now an apartment, , just even a government apartment in Singapore is like half a million and if you’re talking about really doing good Feng Shui on a landed house in Singapore, just for even a 3000 square feet land with a build out of 6, 000 square feet, [00:22:00] you’re talking about 8 million Sing dollars.

Right. And it’s expensive. Yeah. And that’s why the rich get richer.

Terence: Right. Yeah. Yeah. So I guess kind of like Qi Men is like. active earned income and Feng Shui is like passive income kind of thing, the way you describe it.

Roy Phay: Pretty cool. I never had anyone told me that. Yeah. So yeah, maybe you can say that it’s true because, yeah, because Qi Men you need to do it every day and just 10 minutes is active income.

Yeah. And Feng Shui. Yeah. I can put, you know, whoever in the room, if you set it correctly, the Feng Shui, the person just get the residual income from there.

Terence: Okay. So like, well, okay, come coming back to Qi Men manifestation, which is what you teach in your free masterclass that you have right now. So anyone can learn how to do it in, , in 10 minutes a day.

Can, can you like just give an overview of what they do in those 10 minutes? Do you have to, you know, I don’t know, flip yourself upside down or, you know, dip yourself in some holy water or whatever.

Roy Phay: Yeah, so, I think one of the misconception to most people is they [00:23:00] taught is Chinese metaphysics and it’s Qi Men and because we use words like deity and then they will start thinking do I need to pray to some Chinese god or something like that.

So usually I will share, like, very quickly, like, Qi Men manifestation is all about energy. Feng Shui is like energy. Gravity is energy as well, right? Gravity is size, base, and nobody knew about gravity until, like, you know, someone discovered gravity, right? Newton, right? And so it’s always, to me, it’s the same.

I told them it’s non religion, like, If you are Muslim, you are Catholic, you are Christian, you are Buddhist, and if you jump off a building at 30 storey high without parachute, I think gravity works on everyone. So it’s Qi Men. And that’s interesting because then I start, , you know, over the last many years, I have Muslim, I have Catholics, I have Hindu, I have Christian, I have Buddhist, I have Taoist, you know, so it’s non religion and we don’t talk about religion in my class.

And so it’s really easy. Yeah. 10 minutes every day, you just need to [00:24:00] know what is your own superpower, , what is your own direction, which is the eight compass direction, by the way. And you just sit back facing that direction and you just close your eyes, just like normal sitting on a chair, back straight.

The only reason to back straight is so that you can breathe, right? Don’t slouch. And you can’t breathe. And that’s normal breath work. And then you just count your breath and then you get to this brainwave state called the alpha state, which is scientifically proven that the subconscious is the most receptive during this brainwave, alpha brainwave.

And that’s how you, instill or say out a command, a very specific command to your subconscious mind. Right. And if you do that daily to a point, your subconscious mind will start accepting this new command. It could be a specific goal that you want to achieve extra $5,000 income or to get a promotion or to find a job or to do well in your trading.

So these are the common commands that students use and do. And if you [00:25:00] do that long enough the subconscious will believe in that command and will send a signal to your conscious mind, which will send it to your emotion. You naturally feel good about it. And that’s where you take action and how you get the results.

And that’s how I usually explain in the class.

Diverse Student Backgrounds and Meditation Techniques

Terence: Yeah. Okay. Nice. So like students, people who come to your masterclass, they, they, they learn which of the directions they need to face and they learn their special power at your class. And then they can go ahead and do it themselves, right? And then like, how long does it take to, for stuff to manifest, so to say?

Roy Phay: I do have some of the outliers that after Saturday, because it’s a weekend masterclass. So usually on Saturday, just before the class and we’ll do a group Qi Men manifestation together. And I do have students that, that night itself, they get their results, whatever they manifested. , average, I would say, yes, on average, I would say most students, if they do it consistently, they get it within two weeks to four weeks.

Some of them take a [00:26:00] bit longer because maybe of their goals, maybe of their focus, you know, maybe of the desire. So on average, the rest will get it within three to six months.

Terence: So what are some of the more impressive results that they have manifested, your students? Can you share one or two?

Roy Phay: I would say the common ones would be them looking for a job.

So, , yeah, because I think pandemic, a lot of people lost their job. So like to me, student getting job is like so common nowadays. Like they come in and within months, they usually find a job and they, they are not the typical entry role. Right…

Terence: It’s the jobs they actually want.

Roy Phay: It’s all in the five figure range, be it Malaysia or Singapore, like CFO, like a director role, like a regional role.

And, and it’s very tough because it’s such a small industry and everybody knows everybody, but somehow we still managed to get. them the role that they want. That’s one. And the next common one would be people do better in trading because now I [00:27:00] think a lot of people are doing trading and Qi Men manifestation actually helps individual to become better trader because if you understand the psychology and emotion of traders, if you become more calm, you have clarity of mind to understand the market and signal better. That’s where you become a better trader. So I do have quite a nber of traders who have been losing money. And ever since they learned this, , they do Qi Men manifestation plus, you know, a few more advanced technique in just three to six months, they start making money and become better traders.

Terence: You should take a percentage of their profits, I reckon.

Roy Phay: Yeah, yeah. And personally, I love trading. So, so I will share with them some of my, you know, findings as well myself. , one more very common, , pool of people that we attract, , real estate agents, insurance agents, salespeople, business owners, , is because they understood that by shifting, you know, just 1 percent of their mindset, their energy, their return [00:28:00] on investment is enormous. Right. Because you’re dealing with tens of hundreds of millions of dollars. And just recently I just had a crypto millionaire. So this guy is a crypto and he’s so rich that he even have his own race team, his own race car team, and he’s the driver. Right. And yeah. So then I was like, why are you interested in this program?

Terence: Mm-Hmm.

Roy Phay: They say, oh, very easy. Because if I knew how to use Qi Men to make better decision and just one decision is worth 50 to a hundred thousand dollars to me.

Terence: Yeah. No brainer, right?

Roy Phay: That’s why he… yeah, no brainer. Right? So the rich actually gets it. , they actually get it because they know that they just need to shift that 1% and you know, they get the result.

And I also have another business owner that just came in recently. I think he’s in the sixties and he’s running his family business for 50 years. It’s a family brother owned business. It’s a pretty prominent business in Singapore and he’s planning [00:29:00] for IPO. All right. For Singapore, for listing. And he say he wants to work with me for the next two years to help him to strategize using Qi Men and metaphysics to go into listing, even though he’s a Catholic, right? So, yeah, so there are people like that who actually nowadays using more and more Qi Men in their lives. Yeah.

Terence: Because someone like that, you know, you make the right decisions, make the right choices, you get there faster and it’s going to be worth so much more.

You save time and save money, avoid mistakes, right? So for business person, it’s like, yeah, why not get the unfair advantage, right?

Roy Phay: Yeah, totally. So he was telling me he has about a hundred employees under him, like all Singaporean, like it’s really a lot of expenses every month. And he himself told me that once I know how to use Qi Men and some of the advanced Qi Men technique to calm my mind and to let me be more alert, , I can make better decision because I’m a strategist.

That’s what he told me. I said, totally true. And I say, let’s work [00:30:00] towards that. And let’s, you know, coach you to what’s having that clarity of mind. And he knew that. Right. So, so that’s what we are doing currently. Yeah.

Comparing Qi Men Manifestation and The Secret

Terence: Cool. So Roy, I’m… one thing I’m curious about, you know, like, , in the West, they have this whole concept about The Secret and, you know, in a sense it’s manifestation as well.

How is that different to Qi Men manifestation in the ancient Chinese context? Because Qi Men has been around for thousands of years in China, right? So I’m curious, what’s the difference and what’s the similarities you see?

Roy Phay: So, The Secret was launched in, I think, 2005. And that was when I also went crazy on it.

And I kind of deep dive into it for about two, three years. So I have a bit of experience in there. I wouldn’t say I’m an expert. , the biggest difference is specific. And in fact, I actually, I did a YouTube video on this. What’s the difference between, I think five key differences between Law of Attraction and Qi Men manifestation.

So, one of the biggest differences is very specific. Law of Attraction is more of like, I want something and just keep [00:31:00] thinking about it. Right. I just keep dreaming about it. Yeah. So then. You probably get it, you don’t get it. And if you don’t get it, you don’t know why. Right. So it’s a little bit random, , but Qi Men manifestation, because we work on a, the way I teach it is you work on a very specific goal.

So, you know, this goal, you achieve it or not through some manager, through some timeframe. , it’s very specific. So, and if you don’t get it and you can extend the deadline or you can tweak the goal and until you get it right. And we work on a very specific, , personal talents or you can call it personal energy or personal superpower. And in fact, in Qi Men, there’s 10 different superpowers. One of it, actually, if you are considered one of the superpower called a 9th heaven, you are the person that best to use Law of Attraction, actually, because 9th heaven is the one that uses mental images and visualization to achieve goals.

Yeah. So. So that explains it, right? And then you [00:32:00] back facing a very specific energy to align with the universe energy, , to get what you want. That’s the difference. If you ask me.

Terence: Okay. So it’s more systemized. It sounds like, and there’s a whole process to it, which has proven to work over… I don’t know how many thousands of years.

Roy Phay: Yeah, I guess it is just, , you know, passed down from different generations and maybe now with this modern time, the way we use it is very different as well, because this is what we want now at these modern times, right? Where we are living.

Coaching Business Tips and Personal Journey

Terence: Yeah, yeah, so true. All right. Let’s pivot a bit, Roy, and talk about like your coaching business, right?

I mean, a lot of people listening to this podcast, they are coaches, they want to know how to grow their businesses. And you’ve been in the game for a little while. Right. , so can you give us a couple of tips, give our listeners a couple of tips as to, you know, if they’re starting, what should they do? And then if they’re more advanced, what they should they do?

Just from your experience.

Roy Phay: Yeah, sure. , I just wanted to share firstly, I’m actually very, very new to the game. , when I was introduced to a [00:33:00] secret group of coaches and speakers and trainers, I’m like the most junior among all of them. So I’ll just share with you my experience these few years. , if you are coaches, especially in the specific niche of spirituality, like, , if you want to become a Reiki healer coach, or you want to become a tarot card reader coach, or even a psychic healer, or even, , you know, , even Ba Zi, you know, Qi Men, Feng Shui consultant in the spiritual space, especially in the next 20 years from 2024 to 2043 in Chinese metaphysics, we call this a Period 9.

You might have heard about it because now it’s like the new hashtag on, on Facebook and Google. This new trend of Period 9. So yeah. This is one of the trend that if you ever thought of becoming a coach in this aspect, , it’s going to be a upward trend. So to me, I always share my students, it’s so much easier if you want to be a health coach, even to make 120 to [00:34:00] 250, 000 a year, depends what currency you want.

Right. It can be USD as well if you want that. , yeah, it’s very possible. And I really know friends who’s doing seven figure just being a coach nowadays. So just right on the trend, especially if you are thinking, if you love to be a coach or want to be a coach, don’t think, just jp into this, , so called gold rush, right? And just be part of it. And I think it’s one of, to me, I feel it’s one of the best careers I can ever discover myself that because naturally my nature is I truly like to help people. I just want to see goodness in other people since young, and then, you know, still at the same time, I can help people yet, you know, people are willing to, you know, invest in the value for that. I think that’s like the best for me. So that’s one.

Second thing, I think it’s really important for coaches to have their own brand. And I think branding is really important in this Period 9 and also in the internet technology now, especially with AI coming in. [00:35:00] So I would say, , spend some time to really start shooting some video reels, a podcast, like what Terence is doing, YouTube videos. And nowadays it’s so easy. Just a smartphone, just get a good mic and then just. You know, start talking, right? And it’s free. The best part is free. You don’t have to spend thousands of dollars on Facebook ads, right?

It’s free. And then you just put it up, get enough consistency and action and people will start to know you and that’s how you can brand yourself. And it’s really good that, , you, you do that for branding. And that’s what I did as well. I still remember when I started my accident business, this training business.

Because someone actually, , one of my friend actually push me and say, Roy, you should come out and teach this Qi Men thing. I say, no, I don’t want to teach. I just want to learn Feng Shui, BaZi, Qi Men. I got better after I learned it. I just want to be quiet. I just want to make my money quietly. I don’t want to teach, right?

Because teaching is sticking yourself out there to be shot down by naysayers, right? They say, no, no, no, no. People love your story. You’re such a…. wonderful story. Like what [00:36:00] you say, Terence, I say, no, I was like back there, who want to listen to a failure like me, like six figures in debt, you know, bankrupt. Oh, and, oh, I did.

I forgot to share, like, I was sent two bankruptcy letters by the bank. I was thankful I wasn’t bankrupt. I managed to somehow borrowed that money from someone and pay off the bank. I got two bankruptcy letters, right? And I’m also bankrupt and it’s for very little money to be, to be honest. It’s so silly.

Anyway, and then a lawsuit and, and, and depressed and suicidal.

Like, who wants to listen to me? Like I told my friend, like I go to the local coffee shop in the afternoon for my favorite lunch, which is porridge and vegetables. Nobody will know who I am. You know, the uncle and aunties don’t know who I am even. Who wants to know me? They say, no, no, no. You know, people love it.

And that’s how my friend, , launched, you know, promoted me on the Facebook and 200 people registered for the webinar. I talked for 90 minutes. I, I, I forgotten what I talked about… just ramble along. And then, , 15 people signed up for my [00:37:00] first master class and that’s how I started. And I still remember the first year, .

Word just spread and I was just sharing a little bit on the internet and people just start messaging me and call me master, call me shifu. I say, no, no, no, none of those. I’m not like that. I’m not even a master. I’m like, I just share what I know. Right. And then that’s how I kickstart my first year in my training.

And I did one masterclass after another. My second masterclass was 32 students. And the third one, I even increased the price to, you know, increase my, my price and 50 people signed up. And that’s how I did six figures the first year without advertising, but it’s all brand yourself, putting yourself out there.

Terence: Right.

Roy Phay: And I think the third thing that’s really, really important is the messaging. What is the message you want to put across to the audience? I think this is the same for any businesses out there, especially now, as you might notice han being attention span is getting shorter and shorter, because yes, in the [00:38:00] past we can finish a 90 minute movie, a two hours movie.

And then maybe 10 years ago, people still watch a 10 to 15 minute video. Now everyone just watch a 60 second reel. So, attention span is getting shorter and shorter. So I’m not sure how many people still listening to this podcast after like almost coming to an hour. Right.

Terence: Yeah. So those that do, they are the real thing, right?

They, they are the, the real people that you want to listen to this podcast.

Right? That’s why we’re giving so much value.

Roy Phay: Yeah. That’s why the golden nuggets at the back. Anyway, so, , one thing I learned these few years as I grew my business from zero to seven figures is really the messaging. How do you convey your value over to your clients, right?

Which is, can be a coachee, can be a student in a very layman way. That’s one. And secondly is to let them see the results that they are going to have by working with you. If you are able [00:39:00] to do that, you just tweak, you know, their frame of mind from impossible to possible. And that is when they will give you the opportunity to work with them.

And as long as you have that opportunity to work with them, to coach them, I’m sure. I strongly believe every coach out there really wants to make a difference and that’s where you can get the results. And once you get the results, always remember to ask for video testimonials. And that’s what I did for my very first masterclass.

I have 15 students and I gave a special offer at the end, , after the masterclass and I said, if you gimme a video testimonial, I’m gonna throw in this extra bonus for you. And out of 15, 10 of them gave me video testimonials. And that’s how I started my, you know, to grow, you know, my business into 32 for the second round.

Because then I can share, I done my first masterclass and then these are the results from those people. Some of you might know them, and that’s how there are more people who believe this is credible and that’s where you know, they will want to, you know, follow your training or your [00:40:00] coaching, right? So it’s a messaging that’s important.

And of course that itself can be a whole three hours podcast into, you know, psychology to messaging into how you, , you know, share your value across without being too salesy and stuff like that as well. Right. So that’s the whole art of communication over there, , for the coaches and trainers out there.

Yeah.

Branding and Messaging for Coaches

Terence: So just quickly with your messaging, how, how do you position yourself out there, Roy?

Roy Phay: Yeah. So for me, because, , Chinese metaphysics has always been seen as superstitious, seen as something fluffy. It’s not very concrete. It’s not logical. And to some people, I’ve even had students… like… they will hide away from their spouse because if the spouse knew they are doing Feng Shui, then the spouse would think they are some like crazy people. Or even from family members.

So I, for me, right from the beginning, what I did was to break away all this myth, [00:41:00] right? So first, , if you notice just now, I share like how I make it logical and scientific, like Qi Men Manifestation, Feng Shui is just like science, it’s energy. And if you understand energy, you believe in quant physics, everything is energy, right?

The table has energy, even my voice, you know, you can feel my energy, right? So everything has energy. So I use that to break away the superstitious. Then next is that, you know, I let them see. See that they can have results. So why I chose Qi Men manifestation, because it’s something really, really, really easy and even a six years old kid can learn.

In fact, kids make, kids are the best manifester, by the way, if you, if you truly understand this, because they’re so, , you know, decluttered from their, they’re so, you know, yeah, they’re not, they’re not cluttered with all the. You know, like adult nonsense and things like that. And my oldest student is like 80 years old grandma, right?

So it’s really easy for them to understand. So it’s, so you have to make it really easy and, you know, step by step. And nobody likes hard work. If you make things [00:42:00] easy for people to learn, they’ll want to learn. And once they learn it and they see results, then the belief system will kick in and that’s where they’ll continue to learn.

So I do have students till today. They have done like maybe a thousand days of Qi Men manifestation and they literally saw their life grew and became better. Like a thousand days is three year plus. So I have students who’s been with me for three, four years and they’re still doing it every day.

Yeah. Yeah. So that is that.

Terence: That’s commitment.

Roy Phay: Yeah. Yeah. And because it’s a bit like you go to the gym , you, you see results, you feel good, your life change, and that’s how it becomes a habit, right? And so much so that if you don’t do it, you feel weird actually. Yeah. Yeah. So, so we talk about our superstitious, we talk about, you know, easy.

And I think the next thing that for my side is there are many, many different masters out there. So for me, I never compare with them and, and I don’t always… [00:43:00] I don’t go and see my competitors, what they do. , I just focus on what I do, focus on what’s my strength. And for me, I will share with them my key strength, , which is I discovered it myself through learning my own BaZi is the ability to spot things, right?

So I’m very, very good at spotting, and I’m very good at taking very complex subject like Chinese metaphysics. And if you talk about just BaZi system alone, it’s a very complex system. Feng Shui school is a very complex system. Qi Men alone is very complex. So how to take this three complex thousands of years wisdom, not only that to understand individually, but to put them together holistically and not only that, to apply it into my life and see results and then, you know, create a system and a framework and a step by step to teach to students.

So I guess that’s what my secret sauce is. And that’s what draws a lot more students now than ever before. And I guess it’s a journey. I do more and more. I get more [00:44:00] feedback. And then, , I get to know more about myself. So for coaches and trainers out there, it’s always not about competitors. And in fact, if, , industry have lots of competitor means it’s good because it means it’s a very profitable industry, right?

Terence: Yeah.

Roy Phay: Like many other niches, right? And if you are the only one that is so unique, then maybe you’re in the wrong, wrong industry or niche because probably it’s not popular. Yeah. But anyway, so, so the goal is not to really compare like, Oh, this person is doing this. That person is doing that. No, I never believe in that.

I always focus. I always believe in running my own marathon. Just focus on my race. Yeah. Because my goal is to cross the finishing line for myself. It’s never about, Oh, I must race the next person beside me or must chase the target in front. So, yeah. So you just need to pace yourself and know what’s your strength.

And since I’m in this universe energy attraction thing, I strongly believe as I [00:45:00] became better then I will attract the kind of students that, you know, have the affinity with me to, to grow together. And, and it’s very true. And over the last few years, , we have seen a huge increase in the quality of students over the years.

Yeah. So, so that means whatever I’m doing for myself and whatever I’m teaching, it works as well. Yeah.

Terence: Nice. Well, thanks so much for it. I mean, that was absolutely fascinating, you know, Chinese metaphysics. And we talk about business as well and fantastic comeback story as well. So congratulations on all fronts and, , yeah, Roy.
